How sleep changes as you age

At some points I swear I’m supposed to be living in a place like Australia because my nights and days are so mixed up from my sleep pattern.

For more than a few years I’ve slept about 2 hours at a time before waking to check the time or take the dog out or get up to make breakfast or to check on the kids. I may be mistaken blaming those reasons for my poor sleep…

Sleep issues present themselves by gender in slightly different ways. A meta-analysis of 65 studies found women are more likely to have difficulty falling asleep as they age, but men are more likely to experience shorter total sleep time and to wake up more often during the night.

This is why couples slept in separate beds in the 50s! Lol.

I’m Patty Gordon, a 40+ year old school lunch lady married to a crane mechanic. Our days are anything but normal as he works “construction worker hours” and I take care of our two elementary school aged kids, Chihuahua Mr Biggs, Pitbull Cali, and French Bulldog MooMoo. I blogged a few years ago under different names but have landed with the 365MomMe.com name this time around. The term 365MomMe comes from the idea that I’m a mom and I’m me 365 days a year. Kids call me Mommy but I see myself as MomMe.

  1. After having kids I don’t sleep through the night. I definitely wake up a few times. I am waiting for the day I can sleep in late. Although idk if my body would allow me to sleep in lol I wake up early even on the weekends!
