Normal is such subjective thing these days.
We are getting back to (air quotes) normal (air quotes) on Monday going to in-person school. It’s a hybrid system where the kids will go two days a week until May.
Normal school, pre covid, was 8:20 to 2:15 for 5 days a week. This new normal is 2 days a week 8:20 to 11:20 in person and the rest at home 8:20 to 11:20. Yes. That’s right. My kids are doing school part time right now.
Our school district is a mess. I really hate to bag on them so much about their handling of this COVID thing, but in our town we have 3 districts, 2 charter schools, 2 private schools and a few home schooling options.
Most of the charter schools and private schools have been doing in person school for months. They have longer school days as well so it only widens the gap of how much time my kids are missing in the classroom. Some are a few days a week, some back to full time. They all seem to be doing well at it because I’m not hearing of any huge outbreaks of covid from the kids or families of the kids.
Our district was supposed to go on a hybrid schedule in November then pushed it to January then pushed it again to next week. I’m hoping that nothing happens between now and Monday because one of the other districts in our town got a cease and desist letter from their teacher’s union the Friday morning before they were supposed to go hybrid on that next Monday last month.
So we are crossing our fingers and toes that Monday goes off without a hitch. It will make the importance of a morning routine even more important because it will be something like 375 days since we’ve had to leave the house for school!
What are your best tips for getting back to a morning routine? At this point we are so rusty at it I’m sure we will need the help!
