When I grow up..

I had a conversation with my mom last week about college tuition and how I didn’t agree with it even if my college education isn’t really being used that much as a fledgling blogger and stay at home mom.

My first plan for a career was to be a teacher and an athletic trainer and coach high school sports. Since I’m not an official teacher now I’m you can see how well that plan went. I have the heart of a teacher but not the stomach or patience for all the non teaching activities that are attached to being in a classroom. KUDOS to anyone who could do it!

My back up plan with my major was to be a romance novelist. I’m sure I could do it if I could ever figure out how to be published. I had a pretty good fan-fiction following in the late 1990s into mid 2000s. my last project is planned and ready to be written if I could ever get the time to sit down and do it.

So the question arises… will I ever use my English Degree in an officially official capacity? It remains to be seen.

What did you want to be when you grew up and why you became whatever you are now?

I wanted to be a doctor or a pilot… and I’m no where near either of those professions 😅

I went back to school in my late forties, moving from business administration to the library (a role that I had held on and off over the years, either volunteer or paid). I never really had a “career goal” but my choices always seem to lead back to this field. You’re never too old to find your “fit”.

That’s like me and writing. I keep trying to get a job doing something else, but really there is a part of me that wants to be a romance novelist! I’ve had that interest since I was in high school.

I think that I would love to be a full-time writer too, but I do love my job (and the security). Keep working at your dream. 🙂

I wanted to be a pediatrician but studying to be a doctor was too hard so I studied pharmacy instead. I didn’t like working at a drugstore so I did my masters in research of Medical Microbiology and I was supposed to continue my phd and become a professor but i delivered midmasters and barely finished my masters. My grades didn’t qualify me to get a scholarship for phd and also 40 hours a week was too much to do with a newborn. Fast forward 6 years later and I’m still a stay at home mom in a country with a falling economy (lebanon) but when covid began, I published my 1st book. I’ve published 7 books so far but I suck at marketing. I’m trying though. I had been writing poems for 10 years as a hobby and I felt confident enough to publish them. I also write blogs here but for free. I’m not pursuing a career right now but I’m trying to grow my blog and promote my books.
