Finding the one word that can make you more successful in the New Year

How would you feel about being able to replace a list of New Years Resolutions with one word to set yourself up for success for the new year?

New Years is such a fun time of year, but so many people get depressed knowing just how many things they didn’t achieve in the last year.

About 33% of participants chose resolutions related to their physical health, 20% focused on weight loss and 13% worked on changing their eating habits.

New Year’s resolutions: This simple trick can help you succeed (

Just think. If they fail year after year at just these items it’s no wonder that gyms will be full for the next month with people trying to stay on track again.

There has to be a better way to get thro, ugh the next 365 days with promise and motivation not defeat and dread.

Want to know some good news? New Year’s Resolutions don’t have to be that complicated. By using just one word to shape your year, you can set yourself up for success!

This year, as an anti-new years resolution post I’m going to pick a word that I’ll concentrate on instead of a list of things I most likely won’t finish. I’ve done this in the past and have had some success and some failure with keeping to it, but I think this year (being more organized) I’ll be able to get it do.

My process of picking a word

In one similar blog post there was a five step process they talked about going through to pick your word.

I guess if you want to get real deep and sit on it for a long time you’re more than welcome to do it.

In the theme of keeping it simple, I started out by simply filling in the blank:

In 2021, I want to be more ______________.

It seems very elementary to start with this one tiny statement.

More is the key word here. It encourages one to amplify a trait or a skill that you might already possess.

How we phrase our New Year’s resolution could give us a slight edge as to whether or not we’ll stick to the new habit, according to a study published Wednesday in the open-access journal PLOS One.

New Year’s resolutions: This simple trick can help you succeed (

By keeping the sentence simple though however leaves room for an individual to make their own statement.

Feeling lost with this freedom? Words you might choose:

  • Creative
  • Healthy
  • Caring
  • Loving
  • Committed
  • Conscious

So what’s my word for the year?

I needed a word that would cover all the Mom aspects of my life (organizing schoolwork, parenting and creating a home for my children to grow up in) and the Me (productivity, personal development, weight loss, education and community) aspects of my life.

The only one that seems to cover them all for the next year is…

Big interpretation here but still simple right?

Now what am I going to do with this word? Well here are my anti-new years resolutions for the year:

Be consistent in my life in all the ways that count.

Again, simple, right?

By not making a huge list of things to do I’ve taken the pressure off myself to fulfill promises that I won’t keep. Being consistent though is something that I can do in many aspects of daily living from exercise to cleaning to spending time with my kids, the goal will be to just do it consistently.

I hope this post inspires you to pick a word to guide your 2021. Comment with yours and be sure to check out the posts How to Absolutely Use Google Calendar Like a Pro and How a to do list saved my sanity that will help you make 2021 your most productive year yet!
