Dyslexia Awareness Month

I’m not at all shy about telling people that my son is dyslexic. Reading comes naturally for me. I was an english major in college and write fiction on the side. How ironic is it that my son has trouble reading?

He was diagnosed early in kindergarten and is thriving with the help of a great teacher. Like with any skill that needs training we have good days and bad days. My number one aim in getting him help is not to turn him into something he’s not, but to merely give him the confidence that what he is, who he turns out to be is more than enough!

Dyslexia Awareness Month in October seeks to raise awareness and share the tools to increase better reading skills. Around the world, those who have been diagnosed with the condition will find new resources and approaches to reading. Throughout Dyslexia Awareness Month, events and seminars will provide opportunities for educators and families to access the many benefits available to them.

Dylexia isn’t something that can be cured. It’s something he will deal with the rest of his life but learning skills to get around his obstacles is what we are working on now with success so far. Getting to the issue earlier than later gives him more chances for success.
