Either you’ll know to avoid the place or you’ll know how to handle the next situation.

New situations always give me anxiety. I would have hoped by now as a former army brat who moved multiple times and was always faced with new situations that I would have overcome this but it’s still a thing with me to deal with.

Here are a few things I tell myself before I leave the house to make sure I’m feeling my most confident when I’m about to face a new situation.

  1. It’s never going to be as bad as you think its going to be. I liken it to getting a shot. When you’re nervous about getting a shot that can last for a long time but the actual action of getting most shots is only a few moments long.
  2. Odds are that someone else at this event you’re going to is going to be as nervous as you. It’s a common reaction to facing something new so think about how nervous other people are and focus on making someone else’s fears subside in order to make your own disappear.
  3. Stepping out of your comfort zone is always an opportunity to grow. By learning something new, meeting someone new, or even visiting a new location is a chance for growth.

If all else fails, as a MomMe, you’ll come away with information that will help you the next time you face something new. Either you’ll know to avoid the place or you’ll know how to handle the next situation.c
